About Us

The Martin group is an interdisciplinary research group, focused on the Inorganic/Materials/Physical Chemistry of Condensed materials. We explore synthesis, structure and physical properties of inorganic materials at the interface of molecular and solid‑state chemistry. We have been developing principles of Amorphous Materials Engineering (i.e. understanding the structure of liquids, solutions and glasses) that underlies the science behind much nano-science and technology. We are pioneering the investigation of reaction mechanisms in condensed matter: phase transitions, nucleation, crystallization, the glass transition, and gas/solid reactions. In addition, Prof. Martin is a recognized leader in science and education public policy.
